The Power Systems Engineer will be instrumental in advancing ChargEV’s engineering capabilities in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This role is crucial for building ChargEV’s expertise in high-value technologies, including DC microgrids and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), to support the company’s strategic direction. The Power Systems Engineer will be responsible for ensuring electrical reliability, integrating advanced power systems, and promoting ChargEV’s position within the EV charging ecosystem. This individual will also work closely with the COO to support ChargEV’s transition into high-efficiency, next-generation charging solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

System Design & Integration

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of DC microgrids and BESS technologies to improve the operational efficiency and scalability of ChargEV's infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to incorporate advanced power systems into EV charging stations, ensuring compatibility and high performance.

Engineering & Technical Expertise

  • Utilize extensive knowledge in electrical power systems to manage and optimize power flow, stability, and reliability in EV charging networks.
  • Conduct detailed engineering analysis and simulations to evaluate system performance under various load conditions and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Reliability & Maintenance

  • Develop a robust maintenance and reliability plan specific to power systems, leveraging predictive maintenance and real-time monitoring to minimize downtime and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Establish QA/QC standards tailored for power system components and oversee inspections to ensure adherence to safety and reliability protocols.

Project Management & Implementation

  • Lead technical projects focused on integrating BESS and microgrid systems, ensuring alignment with project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors on system installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting, emphasizing adherence to electrical and safety regulations.

Regulatory Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all engineering designs, systems, and processes meet local, national, and group-level electrical and HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) regulations.
  • Incorporate compliance monitoring tools for continuous adherence and safety assurance within EV infrastructure projects.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Drive innovation by identifying emerging technologies and industry best practices in electrical power systems, microgrids, and BESS, and adapting them to improve ChargEV's service offerings.
  • Collaborate with R&D and technology partners to stay ahead of EV charging advancements, particularly in sustainable and renewable energy solutions.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or engineering (e.g., CRE) is an added advantage
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification by Malaysia Board of Engineers (BEM)
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical power systems, with specific expertise in reliability, maintenance, and project management.
  • Proven track record in microgrid, BESS, or related energy storage and distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with HSE regulations and safety best practices in the energy or power systems sector.
  • Experience in IoT and smart technology integration for infrastructure monitoring.

 

Skills & Experiences:

  • Demonstrates in-depth technical knowledge of electrical power engineering, including power distribution, stability, and BESS technologies.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills, able to use data for predictive analysis, system optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Focused on delivering high-quality results in system design, maintenance, and reliability management.
  • Works effectively within cross-functional teams and communicates complex technical information in an understandable way.
  • Embraces change and leverages new technologies to drive ChargEV’s strategic growth in the EV charging value chain.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Having a “Just-do-it” startup mindset, self-starter and practices the Agile methodology.
  • Strong command of English, written and spoken.
  • Understanding of the EV market.
  • Knowledgeable on HSE best practices
