Responsibilities
The Safety Technician shall assist the Safety Officer, under instructions of the OIM in emergency situations, ensure that the existing safety rules and regulations are being complied with and ensure that the intentions of the regulations relating to worker protection and working environment are followed.
The Safety Technician verifies that the daily activities on board are carried out safely, advising workers clearly and efficiently regarding the risks and control measures for carrying out the task, and that they are also carried out in a healthy manner and that impact of such activities on the environment is within acceptable limits.
General Duties
- Take part in evaluating the risks of all hazardous work onboard the FPSO. In co-operation with the Safety Officer and the workers, take necessary safety actions and make sure that these are adhered to.
- Provides training in the PTW system and being part of the PTWs review of the quality.
- Supports the Safety Officer and emergency drills in co-operation with the management team and give instructions in accordance with procedures and regulations.
- Give all new employees/visitors a safety induction and show all important points throughout the FPSO focusing on safety routines, procedures, emergency exits, life-boats and life-rafts. Highlight the rules and give a presentation about emergency alarms and push buttons on the FPSO.
- Supports with the reports concerning contingency, safety, safety equipment or any other matter related to the safety of personnel or the FPSO.
- Supports the CIPAT Management – Internal Platform Committee for Accident Prevention (always one Safety Technician per rotation will be nominated by the Company as CIPA Member – NR 5 and NR 37).
- Be part of SESMT – Specialized Service of Occupational Safety and Health (NR 04 and NR 37).
- Keeps the logs required within the area of responsibility.
- Act as Radiation Protection Technician on board and be responsible for handling of radioactive materials in accordance to legislation and local rules.
- Carry out checks on installed sources as per procedure and keep a log for measurements.
- Carry out measurements regarding LSA / NORM scaling and deposit handling.
- Advise management in such matters.
- Carry out the duties and tasks as specified in the Emergency Response Plan.
Specific Duties
- Have the technical knowledge for the maintenance of all removable lifesaving, firefighting and safety equipment onboard.
- Promote the Safety Observation Card program onboard and compiling tracking and register of open and closed cards.
- Competent professional for verification of Gas Testing with regards to PTW and Confined Space Entry.
- Maintenance monitoring such as: replacement worn out parts, paint equipment related to safety. Any issues required specialized expertise he/she to involve technical department for assistance / advice.
- Maintain and update contingency plans and organization and propose improvements.
- Support with the incident investigation process.
- Helps with the verification og reports of injuries before they are signed/ approved by the OIM/SAFO.
- Daily evaluate Work Permits and carry out audits on the workplaces.
- Help with preparing Safety Meetings onboard.
- Be present in the helideck and act as Helicopter landing officer (HLO) during landing/take off for helicopters and assist in any emergency situation on the helideck.
- Responsible Deputy for carry out scaffold safety inspection for approval. Continuously keep the scaffolding log updated along with
- weekly inspections.
- Update and maintain all Action tracking lists.
- Supports with weekly action tracking meeting. Such as: Safe-card and pending UNISEA actions.
- Supports with the distribution of HSE reports under the responsibility of the SAFO.
- Helps with sharing the safety alerts.
- Furthermore, the Safety Technician shall carry out such work as has been required by own superior and carry out duties as per documented Company Procedure, including administrative or operational.
- The Safety Technician shall report directly to the Safety Officer (SAFO)
- The Safety Technician shall under instructions, cover the Safety Officer, when necessary with his responsibilities and duties.
HSE Responsibility
- Responsible for maintaining a high degree of awareness.
- Lead by doing; setting an example for others.
- Observe and report any unsafe activities, conditions or situations.
- If you observe anything unsafe use the ‘Stop Work’ Policy.
Qualifications
- General education, certificates and experience:
- Have completed the Occupational Safety technician course.
- Desirable, at least, 1 (one) year offshore experience. Preferably with safety related experience from tankers, fixed or mobile offshore units.
- Register of professional duties as Safety Officer at the Ministry of Labor (MTPS), as per Ordinance MTE 262/2008.
- Experience in HSE.
- Fluent English.
