Job Summary

As the Land & Development Manager for our renewable energy  developments  in New Zealand, you will lead all land access and property-related activities throughout the full project lifecycle—from early-stage development through construction and operations. This includes negotiating agreements, managing property consultants, and fostering strong relationships with landowners, iwi, and other stakeholders. Your success will be measured by securing property rights that enable the development, construction, and operation of our renewable energy projects. The Land & Development Manager will also be involved in the day-to-day delivery of our projects, from their initial inception through to the final planning consent.

Duties

Land Access & Negotiations

  • Negotiate preliminary investigation licenses and full development agreements for wind farm projects.
  • Negotiate and secure transmission line access agreements and other property rights essential for project success.
  • Manage property consultants and coordinate interfaces between consultants and landowners.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide updates to landowners on project activities.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with landowners, iwi, community stakeholders, and advisors.
  • Represent the company in meetings with landowners, iwi, and other key stakeholders.
  • During all phases of the project, support the interfaces between contractors and landowners.
  • Promote and uphold Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards during all site activities.

Project Support

  • Contribute to project planning, reporting, and financial management.
  • Support the Country Manager in originating new project opportunities, including:
    • Conducting “red flag” reviews and ranking prospects.
    • Recommending acceptance or rejection of opportunities.
  • Provide ongoing support during construction and operational phases to manage landowner interfaces.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with solar development projects in New Zealand as required.
  • Maintain a good awareness of land access contract structures in the context of private, commercial and iwi owned rural property.
  • Monitor rural property trends, valuations, and regulatory changes, keeping management informed.
  • Collaborate with internal finance teams to process landowner and consultant invoices.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in property or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience including at least 5 years in a similar position.
  • Strong familiarity with land leases and easements
  • Proven expertise in land access negotiations, preferably within renewable energy.
  • Familiar with the rural sector, farming, forestry, and trends in rural property.
  • Proficient in property-related tools (e.g. land title searches, GRIP, Google Earth).
  • A sound understanding of the NZ electricity sector and regulatory environment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.Experience engaging with Iwi and Maori communities.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to work independently and travel when needed.
  • Right to live, work and drive in New Zealand.
  • Preference for a candidate based in or near Auckland.
