Senior Associate, Tax
Role Purpose And Context
The purpose of the Tax Senior Associate role is to assist with strict taxation compliance for Yinson Production’s operations in Angola, which will cover tax affairs in line with the overall Group and Regional tax strategy: including tax compliance, tax accounting and reporting, tax controls and risk management, support with tax advisory, tax planning, compliance with capital investment regulations, and stakeholder engagement as well as supporting the finance team with process improvement.
This role reports to the Africa Tax Manager, in the International Tax & Structure (ITS) team, and will be the Angolan tax lead, supporting our dynamic tax team in the Africa region. In addition to strong technical expertise, the successful candidate will build, lead and maintain a strong working relationship with all internal and external stakeholders including global finance and operations teams in accordance with Yinson’s Global Tax Policy. This position is open to candidates with a right to work in Angola.
Key Accountabilities:
o Prepare, review and approve, periodic statutory withholding taxes (including Retenção, IPU, IIT), employment income taxes (IRT), Value Added Tax (IVA); annual Transfer Pricing (TP) declarations, and IRT and company income tax (imposto industrial) returns.
o Ensure timely filing of approved tax returns, retain electronic copies of tax payment receipts and AGT-acknowledged copies of returns on record.
o Ensure local accounts meet GAAP/ legal requirements and standards.
o Review intercompany agreements and ensure compliance with local laws including exchange control regulations, stamping requirements.
o Prepare periodic reports (including monthly, quarterly and annually) for review and consolidation into management and board reports.
o Follow up to resolve AGT queries in consultation with management and timeously escalate any unresolved issues, including follow-ups on IVA credit refunds.
o Support with custom clearance efforts as may be required.
o Obtain schedules, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports from Finance Teams and prepare reconciliation schedules as required during tax audits.
o Assist during statutory and special tax audits by populating primary information requests and following up with finance teams in preparing additional information requests for review. Submit tax clearance certificates (TCC) and Tax Exemption applications as approved and follow up with AGT to ensure same is issued in a timely manner.
o Obtain Tax GL information from AGT’s local office and ensure reconciliations between Yinson Production’s records and the Revenue Authority’s.
o Assist to obtain tax rulings and confirmations from the AGT
o Assist with in-house tax training.
o Assist with correspondence with oil majors including their respective tax and finance teams.
o Draft responses to stakeholder information requests for review before subsequent submission.
o Maintain a healthy relationship with the primary external stakeholder offices (i.e., AGT offices, tax advisors, statutory auditors) to promote a smooth process of engagement on tax matters.
o Provide additional support in regional Africa tax and finance functions as directed.
About the candidate
A successful candidate would be an experienced Tax Senior or fresh Tax Manager with strong experience in tax compliance and exposure to tax advisory engagements from a Big4/ mid-tier/ legal consulting, or from an in-house tax department in a multinational corporation, or both.
Qualification & Experience
o English proficiency.
o Bachelor’s degree in accounting or economics.
o 4-6 years’ experience in Taxation.
o Chartered Accountant (OCPCA, ACCA, CIMA, or any international equivalent) is desirable.
o Extractive sector experience is desirable.
o IFRS knowledge is desirable.
o Strong technical knowledge in the various tax laws in Angola.
