Senior Instrument Engineer
Yinson Production owns and operates eight floating production units, and we are now seeking a Senior Instrument and Automation Engineer in Oslo.
The position involves assessing, recommending and approving design across the fleet. The work will include automation topology and system analysis on new projects, engineering and delivery of modifications, and root cause investigation when systems in service do not behave as intended.
About the position
Your task is to ensure that the fleet's control, safety and instrumentation systems are safe, reliable and optimized.
You will join the Asset Lifecycle Management department in Oslo and report to the Head of Global Technical Support, who holds discipline authority and allocates work within the team. The fleet consists of eight units in operation, and the daily work comprises modification work, tenders and early-phase studies, including projects in execution.
We are a dedicated group holding overall technical responsibility for the fleet. You get responsibility for own judgements, and the path from a technical recommendation to a decision is short.
Core Responsibilities
- Technical support to Operations and Business Development with emphasis on Control Systems and Field Instrumentation.
- Development of Automation Topology (Control- and Safety Instrumented Systems) and perform system analysis.
- Contribute and support digitalisation strategies including digital twin.
- Support/follow up modification works and provide engineering analysis of system- and instrumentation performance as well as implement root cause analysis studies when necessary.
- Development of Yinson standards, philosophies and specifications.
- Technical safety, reliability and operability.
- Vendor and package management
- Site survey/inspection onboard Yinson facilities as required to collect data and propose improvement of the Automation System as well as field instrumentation.
- Promotion of best practice and implementation of experience feedback.
Duties
- Participate in the EICT discipline's ongoing work as prioritised and support other disciplines within the department.
- Interact with clients and manage vendors as required.
- Provide technical reporting as required.
- Maintain current professional knowledge by tracking developments in methodology, standards and technology, and by absorbing practice from clients, vendors and partners.
- Apply a troubleshooting and problem-solving approach across lifecycle phases, including support to other disciplines where needed.
- Interact effectively with other departments in the company.
- Travel as required, including liaising with other Yinson offices, inspections at shipyards, candidate vessels, and operating production units offshore and onshore.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical/automation engineering or an equivalent discipline.
- Experience with Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS), Safety Systems (SIS, ESD, PSD), Process Control Systems (PCS, BPCS) and Fire and Gas Systems (F&G).
- Experience with process control/instrumentation and knowledge of international technical standards.
- Experience from facilities subject to hazardous area classification (ATEX, IECEx or equivalent).
- Professional English, written and spoken.
- Willingness and ability to undertake international travel, including offshore.
- Self-driven and independent working ability.
Beneficial:
- Master's degree in electrical/automation engineering or an equivalent discipline.
- Experience from FPSO, offshore, subsea or marine conversion projects or operations.
- Familiar with classification society requirements (DNV, ABS, BV, Lloyd's Register) and associated standards.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols.
- Experience with Power Management Systems (PMS).
- Package responsibility for Automation Systems, including vendor follow-up and factory acceptance testing.
