We are a hiring a Senior Construction Project Manager to join our growing team in New Zealand, to support and exciting portofolio of onshore Renewable Energy projects!

Job Summary

Responsibility for the construction of specific renewable energy projects within the NZ portfolio. Ensuring that the projects are delivered, safely, on time, to budget and to the required quality.  The role will also provide support to the development stage of the projects in undertaking technical and financial assessments. 

Location: Auckland, NZ

Responsibilities

  • Develop, present and gain approval for the construction strategy of each project, including the required level of internal and external resources to assist with the delivery of the project(s).
  • Propose and agree the Levels of Authority (LoA) with the SVP Construction and Renewables CEO for each project.
  • Ensure that the required resources and procedures are in place to mitigate or minimize the risks to: Health and Safety, Environmental impacts and Quality standards and control.
  • Work with the Procurement Manager and Legal Team to tender, negotiate and conclude OEM equipment supply, EPC/multi-contract, consultancy and associated agreements.
  • Ensure that each project has an approved Project Execution Plan (PEP), which is kept updated throughout the project.
  • Ensure each project has a construction schedule in line with development timeframes and equipment availability.
  • Oversee the progress and compliance of the construction activities and ensure all necessary interfaces with internal and external stakeholders are being addressed.
  • Ensure projects are built according to relevant legislation, permits and agreements.
  • Where required act as the Project Director for the construction stage of the project and take an active role on any Steering Committee.
  • Carry out visits to projects to assess the sites and ensure compliance.
  • Work with the Finance Team to ensure that project finance is available at the required time for the project(s). Work with the Operations Team during the construction period to ensure projects are built to enable operations to the approved standards and methods, and ensure a successful handover.
  • Work with Yinson corporate advisory and support departments.
  • Provide regular progress reports to the SVP of Construction and internal stakeholders.
  • During the development stage of projects assist with the technical/engineering/financial evaluation of projects, assessing the difficulties of constructing the projects and the risks involved.
  • Manage future construction personnel and assist/lead on recruitment.
  • Manage the settling of contract disputes and warranty claims, during the construction phase.
  • Travel to various suppliers and project locations as and when required.
  • When required, during the pre-construction and construction phase, carry out work at the project site, or within the project country to ensure project progress, interface management and all aspects of project control meet the company’s requirements.
  • Other tasks as allocated by the line manager or senior management team.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Degree in a relevant engineering subject, or proof of suitable training path that has been completed for this type of role.
  • Minimum 5 year(s) of utility scale wind and solar construction project management experience of multi-million $ contracts.
  • Minimum 8 years of construction project management experience of multi-million $ contracts.
  • Knowledge and experience of tendering and managing OEM and EPC contracts.
  • Experience of global procurement of equipment and services,
  • Must be able to speak & write English fluently.
  • Microsoft Word, Project and Excel proficient.
  • Experience of working and travelling globally.
  • Experience working across other functions, for example development and operations would be beneficial.
  • Understanding of electrical systems.
  • Additional languages, for example Spanish and Italian would be an advantage.  
  • AUTOCAD, GIS experience, BIM, Primavera / MS Project, Construction Project Management software.
