Automation Engineer

Yinson GreenTech is looking for an Automation Engineer to join our marine division (“marinEV”) to develop exciting products for electric vessels and charging infrastructure. The Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing and testing automation systems across all marinEV products. This includes the development of advanced vessel management systems to embedded software programming for controlling complex hardware in real time. We are looking for someone with a strong interest in technical innovation who wants to make an impact to decarbonise the maritime industry.

 

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Project Support:

  • Design, develop and implement automation systems for different types of marine electric vessels (newbuild and retrofitting).
  • Support the automation systems scope in accordance with the project budget and timeline.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams both internal and external to successfully incorporate software and automation solutions.
  • Keeping up to date with new technology developments and emerging trends in marine automation and recommend updates or changes to existing systems as needed.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.

 

System Design and Development:

  • Develop and test embedded software, PLC programs, HMI interfaces, control algorithms, and embedded software for vessel automation, including propulsion, navigation, power distribution and auxiliary systems.
  • Develop robust automation frameworks (hardware and software) for the vessel management system to facilitate all monitoring and control functions within the vessel. This includes system interface, HMI graphics, communication protocols, vessel charging, start-up / shutdown sequence and modes of operation.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and classification society regulations related to maritime automation and electrification.
  • Design ownership for all interfaces related to automation, instrumentation, control and communication between ship system and 3rd party equipment.
  • Support technology providers to enable autonomous functions and situational awareness to improve operational safety and efficiency.

 

Software Engineering:

  • Develop software applications for flight control systems, data acquisition, and user interfaces.
  • Collaborate with the digitalEV team to provide software solutions for real-time monitoring, diagnostics and data analysis for the command centre.
  • Ensure the safety and reliability of battery systems with robust software and automation solutions that comply with cybersecurity for battery energy storage systems.
  • Ensure software scalability, maintainability, and implement measures to protect sensitive data and mitigate cybersecurity risks.

Testing and Validation:

  • Conduct comprehensive testing and validation of automation and software systems to ensure performance, reliability, and safety. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with control systems, software, sensors, and communication networks. Troubleshooting and resolving problems with automated systems, using diagnostic instruments and techniques.
  • Perform simulations and real-world testing to validate system performance under various operating conditions.
  • Assist troubleshooting during construction, mechanical completion, and commissioning phase of the project. Conducting regular inspections and tests of automated systems, to ensure they are functioning properly and meeting safety standards.

 

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including system specifications, software design documents, test plans, and user manuals.
  • Maintain accurate records of design changes, software, modifications, and maintenance activities.

 

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all automation and software systems meet safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to enhance system safety.
  • Participate in safety audits and reviews to maintain high safety standards.

Skills & Experience:

Good use of Word and Excel

Programming in C++, AutoCAD

Experience in PLC programming, HMI development, embedded software development, and control system design.

 

Know-how in marine automation and control systems.

 

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, or similar.

Able to write Technical Reports

Bachelor’s Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

Master’s Degree qualified in a technical subject.
